Inspired By True Events

When the system fails, the land speaks.

Okanaweyihcikew is Cree for “the one who watches.” Against the backdrop of a First Nations reserve, a young Indigenous girl disappears — and an investigation begins to lose precious time.

Watcher, a Woodland Cree tracker with a spiritual connection to the land, is drawn into the search. His instincts lead him beyond what can be seen, toward what the land itself may remember.

He is forced into an uneasy partnership with JJ Rollins, a former city detective whose willingness to cross ethical lines ended his career. The two men must overcome cultural divides, personal history and deep mistrust as they race to uncover the truth.

Between them stands the memory of Mikisew — Watcher’s sister and JJ’s late wife. Her death still haunts both men, connecting their past trauma to the evil they now pursue.

As tensions rise and time slips away, Watcher and JJ are forced to confront questions of justice, responsibility and the human cost of doing what is right when the establishment fails.
